This ranking is done by reviews of campers on a scale of 1-5 who stayed at these campgrounds in 2009. This formula is based on people who will take the time to review one of the hundreds of places in the US to vacation at.
America has Beach Camping, Lake Camping, Tent Camping
Brookeville Lake Campground in Brookville, Indiana lies in the heart of the historical and picturesque Whitewater River Valley in southeastern Indiana and is situated on the east Fork of the Whitewater River. Campground reviews give the hideaway three and a half stars for bathroom and showers being extra clean, spacious with a beach and great fishing.
Ocean Pond Campground is located in Olustee, Florida. The site offers 67 campsites. Reviewers thought that the campsites were well maintained. The rangers and campground host were said to be nice. It had a great location and great fishing, with clean bathrooms and hot showers.The magazine gave them five stars.
Ossinecke State Forest Campgrounds in Ossinecke, Michigan has 42 sites for tents and small trailers. Sites are spaced out generously along Lake Huron. Rustic Campgrounds include vault toilets and portable water from a hand pump. Reviewers love the beach and crystal clear water.They describe it as quiet and wonderful.

Hardin Ridge Recreation Area is located in Bloomington, Indiana. Located just southeast of Bloomington, the area is easily accessible from State highway 446. This site is highly rated in campers' reviews.They give it five stars.The campground offers swimming, lake camping, nature walks and interpretive programs in a secluded, forested environment.
Cheoah Point Campgrounds in Fontana Village, North Carolina is located on Santeelah Lake. Activities include boating, fishing, swimming and hiking. It was reviewed by campers as a well-maintained site with excellent restrooms and showers. One reviewer called it the best place to camp in North Carolina.
Carolina Hemlocks is located in Burnsville, North Carolina. Activities at this campground include: swimming, hiking and fishing. Some campers review it as the best family campground they have ever been to. "It's an amazing park with a nice trail along the Toe river." The employees were called "great" and dogs are even allowed.
Double Lake Recreation Area in Cleveland, Texas was built in 1937. Double Lake is stocked with bass, bream and catfish. Only boats with small electric motors are allowed on the 23-acre lake. It offers an eight-mile bike ride along some beautiful hiking trails.
Hideaway Campgrounds, Secluded Campgrounds, Campgrounds With Motels and Restaurants
Loon Lake Lodge is a lake and RV resort in Reedsport, Oregon. Loon Lake is known for its pleasant climate and is located 18 miles from the Pacific Ocean. It has lake views, an RV park, and beach camping is available, as well as fishing, a restaurant and store. The campers love the waverunners, canoes and kayaks that are available as well as the clean restrooms and laundry room.
Four Oaks Lodging and RV Resort located in Four Oaks, North Carolina is a small RV resort and motel offering a home-like atmosphere.Campers described it as having the best prices with free breakfast and Wi-Fi with no connection problems. They described it as a nice surprise and gave it a total of five stars.
Fort Mountain State Park in Chatsworth, Georgia has wooded campsites near a small lake with plenty of trails for hiking, mountain biking and equestrian use. Reviewers say that horseback riders and mountain bikers will love the trails here. Also noted was the campers' love of the miniature golf course for the kids and the clean atmosphere.
There are a few things campgrounds have in common to get favorable reviews. Scenic views and clean bathrooms are two. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that some campsites don't go the extra mile to make a camper's stay there more pleasant. Reviewers also found that the best campgrounds had nice people working there who cared about them. They also remarked about having activities for everybody: something for the adults and the kids as well.
The lists of the top campgrounds usually change every year and are regional, like this one at Best Places To Camp.com. In 2008, an article in Camping Tourist listed their top 10 campsites. On another list from Trails.com, hiking trails were more of a priority on their Best Campground list. Most of these lists specifically cater to different groups. So, whether you are looking for tent camping or an RV park, hiking or fishing, from Maine to Florida, American campgrounds have something for you. Even clean bathrooms.
