It’s the Girls Rock Institute of Portland Oregon's Fall, Winter and Spring Terms. A non- profit organization that builds girls self esteem through music creation and performance. It provides technical training and workshops. It's a rock ‘n’ roll boot camp for Girls that creates leadership opportunities, according to their mission statement, by cultivating a supportive community of peers and mentors that encourages social change and the development of life skills. It’s about creating positive female role models and helping to eliminate sexism thereby empowering girls and creating social change.
Run by a devoted staff of volunteers, female instructors, coaches, band managers and mentors that share experiences and skills in the field of music with students, campers and interns who are members. These volunteers provide examples of leadership, team work and self direction. Rock ‘N’ Roll Camp for girls wants to eradicate the limiting myths about music and gender. They want to show that through the examples of coaches and mentors who exhibit positive examples and experiences that every genre of music from the heaviest to the most delicate and every technical job or creative endeavor in the industry is attainable to any girls or women who wants to explore it.
The Girls Rock Institute has year round after school programs that cost $250.00 a term. There is a Winter Term that starts in January and ends in March and a Fall Term that starts in October and ends in December. There is also private lessons and a Band Center that cost $30.00 per/hr. A Ladies Rock Camp that has two sessions and cost $390.00 and the Summer Camp for girls 8 to 17 that cost $380.00 for a one week session. There is financial aid for the various tuition programs that are available.
It's a Percussion Camp-A Vocal Camp-A Perform Arts Camp- A Band Camp-A Rock And Roll Camp
The Girls Rock Institute is opened year round with tons of music programs on how to improve skills in performing, recording booking shows, touring and all aspects of the music business. Experience run from none to higher levels of skill. At the Rock ’N’ Roll Institute classes meet once a week for 2 hrs. after school with a band coach or instructor. They include:
- Road Block is a 1 hour instrument instruction that is followed by 1 hour of band practice with a Showcase at the end of 9 weeks at the youth camps.
- Rock Camp Studio Project is a workshop that builds an instrument and go deep into the tech land part of music.
- Hip Hop Elements is a study of cultural, style and the art of Hip Hop. Girls will perform at the end of the term in a big Showcase at the rock n roll summer camp.
- Rock Camp Studio and Engineering is a workshop that helps the student learn about the recording processes from a band side or an engineer point of view.
- The Band Center provides services and resources for bands of any experience and skill level.
Ladies Rock Camp is a Girls Rock Band Camp For Ladies Over 21-A Rock And Roll Camp For Big Girls
Ladies Rock Camp enables women 21 and over to learn different instruments like the drums, guitars or keyboards. You will form bands, write music then performed at the music camp's big Showcase on Sunday night. There is beginner to advanced levels. They accept up to 55 women per session with 3 sessions during the summer months. The Ladies Rock Camp is a weekend day camp in Portland OR. That started as a fundraiser for the Rock ’N’ Roll Camp for Girls it is also a unique, fun, team building event for women who wished they would have had a Rock Camp when they were girls.
Rock ‘N’ Roll Camp for Girls Portland has a vast variety of opportunities for volunteers and interns to mentor girls ages 8-17. Camp Counselor jobs include band manager, band coach, instructors and workshop leader at the girls rock camp. Males are also encouraged to apply or volunteer for camp jobs. Interns must be 15 -17 years old. The Rock ‘N’ Roll Camp for Girls is a 501 non-profit organization that accepts donations.
Supporters of the Rock ‘N’ Roll Institute and the rock music summer camp have been the NAMM Foundation with some donors like Capitol Records, Ibanez Guitar, Dean Markley Guitar Strings, Ernie Ball Guitar Strings and Shure Microphone.
